ITANAGAR, Feb 16: Oriah, the annual festival of Wancho community was celebrated with full traditional gaiety and fervour in the state capital here at Senki Park today. Minister, Tourism and Tax & Excise, Jarkar Gamlin attended as chief guest in the day celebration along with other dignitaries.
Highlighting the importance of celebrating festivals, Gamlin while addressing the mammoth gathering has called for preservation of rich tradition and culture to protect it for the coming generations.
“Our tradition & culture is our identity and we have the duty to preserve and protect it”, underscored Gamlin while also urging the Wanchao brethren to uphold the spirit of unity among other indigenous tribal community for peace, prosperity and smooth growth of the state.
Appreciating the organizing committee for successfully celebrating the festival in grand style in the state capital, Gamlin also appealed the parents to teach their children their native language to preserve their age old languages.
Guest of Honour, Special Secretary to CM, Himanshu Gupta appealed the community to spread the message of peace, unity and brotherhood among all other tribes and emphasized on celebrating every festival jointly irrespective of caste and creed.
Parliamentary Secretary (legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs) Laisam Simai said that festivals bring different communities closer.
Festival celebration Committee General Secretary Abom Ngoan also addressed the gathering.
