ITANAGAR, Feb 16: Concerned over the plight of rivers and streams in the state capital, a group called the Youth Mission for Clean River- Arunachal Pradesh has taken on the task of cleaning up the Sinki View river on Saturday.
Addressing the media at press club today, Chairman, YMCR-AP, SD Loda observed that despite being life-giving source sadly there is no one to protect rivers from getting polluted.
‘If you look at water bodies of the capital you will find heaps of garbage along their banks,’ he stated while adding that illegal earth cutting has also affected natural streams due to which many perennial rivers and streams have now turned into seasonal ones.
Loda further, asserted that there are no proper policies to protect the rivers and streams of capital complex. ‘In replies to our RTI, the State Pollution Control Board has categorically informed that there are no policies to protect the lone natural water source Sinki River of the capital complex,’ he said.
Appealing that Swachh Bharat Mission should not be limited to particular place or locality, he said river banks also need serious attention as they are being polluted every day.
‘We believe that likeminded people of the state will join the campaign on February 17 and participate in cleaning the river,’ he added while informing that members will gather at 7 am near Chandranagar Bridge Point and then disperse to clean different stretches of the Sinki View river.
