PASIGHAT, Jun 5:    Aggrieved over the non response of the state government over appeal of the villagers to concern authorities to cancel the public auction of operation of Ferry Services over River Taro Tamak along Mebo-Dhola Road, the   people of Namsing Village under Mebo Sub-Division has called for a 12 hours Chakka Bandh on June 6.

In a letter to Addl. Dy. Commissioner, Mebo today, the people of Namsing village led by Kenedy Perme (ASM Sanggo), Odakson Megu (ASM Anggo), Bohonto Perme (GB), Selendor Pertin, Junet Perme (Gram Chairpersons) and Oterson  Modi (Youth President) submitted an intimation of the Chakka bandh while saying that, the villagers are left with no other alternative. The villagers have shown their resentment over the public auction of the Taro Tamak Ferry Ghat defying local sentiments who own the area since ages. “The stretch of Taro Tamak river at which the government is proposing to conduct ferry services belongs to the community of Namsing village as we have always claimed and operated transportation service and Fish Mahal of this river”, claimed the villagers which held a Kebang on 4th June.

When asked for his official comment on the subject and the appeal sought by the villagers, Addl. Dy. Commissioner, Mebo, Yemling Tayeng said that, the decision of public auction of the ferry services in River Taro Tamak is at the direction of the concern department head of Inland Water Transport, Govt. of AP, so he can’t do anything on it.   But when contacted to District Transport Officer, Pasighat, Chakfa Wangsu he said that, the auction/tender of the ferry services of Taro Tamak is being done for the larger interest of the people of Mebo area only. “There is no registration of ferry boats, no insurance so far. In case of any fatal accident like that of August 8, 2008 major ferry accident at Raneghat over River Siang, we all will be at the receiving end”, said Wangsu who however added that those aggrieved villagers should have met him first if they are also interested to manage the ferry services.
