PASIGHAT, Feb7: The mortal remains of former state BJP president, Late Kangir Jamoh, who breathed his last on February 6 last was brought to Pasighat from Guwahati and kept for some time for people to pay their last respects.A complete spontaneous shutdown was observed across Pasighat and reportedly, the last rites of the will be held on Wednesday at Chimpu, Itanagar. Thousands of people from various walks of life turned up to bid goodbye to Jamoh.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu has mourned the sad and untimely demise of Kangir Jamoh.
In his condolence letter to Padmeswari Jamoh, wife of Late Kangir Jamoh, CM wrote “with a heavy heart, I write to share the grief of losing one of the most prominent personality of Arunachal Pradesh, Late Jamoh, former State BJP President and a senior leader from the Adi community.”
I personally recall his contribution in maintaining communal harmony in the state. He was a person of high probity who was disciplined and committed. He had actively participated in giving valuable inputs during preparation of Budget for 2017-18 when the State Government had invited the CBOs for their suggestions, Khandu said.
Terming that in his demise, Arunachal has lost a first generation leader, a social activist and a great gentleman, the Chief Minister extended solidarity to the bereaved family members and the people of Adi belt.
“I pray Almighty God to bestow you with strength to bear the irreparable loss. May the soul of one of the ablest son of Arunachal Pradesh rest in peace in heavenly abode,” the message further added.
Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein expressed deep shock and sorrow over the untimely demise of Kangir Jamoh. In his condolence message, Mein termed late Jamoh as a ‘fatherly figure’ of the Adi Community and credited him for reformation of Adi customary laws and also for preservation and promotion of indigenous faith and culture, customs and traditions which shall be remembered always.
He will also be remembered for his untiring efforts to bring unity among different tribes of the State and for spearheading movement against drugs addiction and other social evils prevailing in the Tribal Society, Mein added.
He further added that his untimely demise has created a vacuum in the society which would be difficult to fill-in for many days to come.
Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee, President recalled his close association with Late Jamoh since last many years and described him as a vibrant leader and social worker of great stature. Sanjoy also recalled fond memories of his visit to Kaying with late Jamoh four years back. The APCC further extended solidarity with the bereaved family members during this difficult time.
The All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) has also condoled the demise of Jamoh.
Late Kangir was born in Komkar village, Geku, Upper Siang 65 years ago. He worked for promotion and preservation of indigenous faith, traditional culture and custom and fought against drugs and social evils prevailing in society. He elected as General Secretary, Eastern Student Union from 1972-75. Late Jamoh was the recipient of the Best Cadet Award of 10th Assam Battalion in 1974-75. He was Secretary General of All Arunachal Pradesh tribal Employees Association from 1981 to 1984 and served as APCS officer. He joined State BJP unit in 1984 and served as Vice President from 1990-98 and later served as President from 1999-2004.
The Lower Siang Elite Forum in its condolence termed Jamoh’s demise as a great loss to both Adi & Galo communities in particular. He was accommodative in nature and elderly figure of entire Siang belt, the LSEF said in a release.
National People’s Party (NPP), State President Gicho Kabak and Vice-President cum Spokesperson, Nima Sangey Saling have also deeply mourned the sad demise of Jamoh.
