Refugee citizenship uproar

ES Reporter-

ITANAGAR, Oct 9: Lashing out at the state government’s silence regarding its demands against Chakma-Hajong refugee issue, All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today urged the government to table a one-point resolution against the Supreme Court order on granting citizenship to the refugees in the ensuing Assembly Session on October 13 next. The apex student body further threatened to resort to non-cooperation movement against both the Centre and the state government.

Speaking to reporters at Press Club today, President AAPSU, Hawa Bagang said ‘We will not back off on the refugee issue, so government should table legislation in the Assembly session in the line of Tamil Nadu Assembly that had passed an ordinance against the Supreme Court verdict on Jallikattu traditional sports. Moreover, the entire elected representatives should adopt the one point resolution taken during the All Party meeting opposing granting of citizenship to Chakma –Hajong in Arunachal Pradesh’.

Further, slamming opposition leaders for being mute spectators in the Assembly, President AAPSU opined that all opposition leaders should strongly voice and compel the ruling government to adopt resolution in the assembly instead of siding with the government of the day.

Claiming its firm and clear stand on Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy, Bagang categorically reiterated that they are against the policy and will never share any rights with refugees.

While, appealing denizens and students to keep faith on AAPSU, Bagang urged not to believe in any hearsay in any forum even on social media.

‘If anyone has doubt on AAPSU they are welcome in any forum to discuss but alleging without any concrete point is unbecoming,’ he added.

‘Many are questioning AAPSU on its golden jubilee celebration but we want to clarify that celebration has nothing to do with refugee issue and it was already in the calendar of the Union,’ said General Secretary AAPSU, Tobom Dai.

He added ‘fighting is still on and will continue.’

Meanwhile, AAPSU has hailed the state government for its decision to order CBI enquiry on PDS corruption.  However, the union expressed resentment that most of the time the CBI team fails to reach Itanagar and return back from Guwahati.
