ITANAGAR, Oct 17:Ridiculing the Arunachal Christian Forum’s (ACF) demands, the Nyishi Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society (NIFSC) in a release has asked the apex Christian body to withdraw its demands immediately.

In a release, while terming their opposition to the creation of Department of Indigenous Faith & Cultural Affairs (DIFCA) as “unfounded” and “baseless”, it maintained that its establishment has nothing to do with the furtherance of the Christian Missionaries affairs in the state.

It asserted that due to advent of modernization many of the vibrant age-old customary practices and belief systems of the native people have already disappeared or are on the brink of extinction due to onslaught of several alien cultures.

“Even the basic identity of material culture, artefacts, motifs and relics of the native people are being destroyed recklessly and deliberately day by day. Even our revered institution of priesthood is facing extinction due to deliberate sacrilege of their spiritual values and sanctity from the so-called institutionalised religion,” it added.

Welcoming the government move to create DIFCA to save the endangered tribal culture, it also quashed the ACF claims that creation of DIFCA violates the Article 27 of the Constitution of India.

“It is unfortunate that a body like ACF blatantly misleads and is trying to suppress the truth by quoting Article 27 of the Constitution of India. Under the ‘Article 27” it is written only that person shall be compelled to pay any taxes for expenses on promotion or maintenance of any particular religion. The ACF is completely ill-informed and naïve about the provision of the Constitution as there is no mention of word or term ‘faith’ in the said Article,” it opined.

Furthermore urging the government not to succumb to undue pressure, it also appealed to every right thinking indigenous people of the state to support DIFCA and do not get misguided by ACF demands.
