Preparations are in full swing for the ensuing silver jubilee celebration of “Losar” in the state capital—the three day festival which is scheduled to be held from March 3-6 next. The event will be held at Nyokum Lapang Ground where a large number of Buddhist artists from the state including Bhutan are expected to participate.
Announcing this in a press conference this afternoon at press club, President, Itanagar Buddhist Cultural society (IBCS), Sonam Tenzing said that they have put in all out efforts to prepare for the celebration by carefully selecting variety of activities, sports events and competitions to make it a grand success.
Referring on cost of items that would be available in the stalls, Tenzing said they have passed strong direction to all stall owners to keep their products as affordable as possible to meet all aspirations.
He also informed that they have charged only Rs 2000 per person for renting a stall and promised that visitors will not feel the pinch of steep prices as is the case in most events.
He expressed optimism that the festival will trigger unity and brotherhood among Buddhist community and help them in showcasing and exchanging their rich cultural heritage with other indigenous tribes of the state.
General Secretary, Dorjee Wangdi informed that artists from Bhutan and other states will be performing in the three daylong celebrations to enthrall the audience.
Meanwhile, IBCS also raised concern over the threat the Monastery (Gompa) is currently facing due to illegal trespass during night hours by unscrupulous persons, drug addicts including land encroachment etc, which they say is disturbing the sanctity of the holy place.
