PASIGHAT, Feb 21: As a mark of protest over the possible attempt to shift headquarters of Siang District from notified permanent site Nyobo (Perang Lampang) and from Pangin (temporary HQ) to Boleng, several people boycotted the Statehood Day on Tuesday and also resolved to call a 12 hour bandh from 5 am to 5 pm on February 22.

A meeting in this regard was conducted at Pangin where representatives from various Banggos (areas) like Rotgong, Nugong, Kaying, Payum and Pessing attended and echoed their common voice against the possible attempt of state government to shift the already notified district HQ. The meeting also observed that, the possible shifting of district HQ is dictated by the concerned Minister of the district itself.

The meeting also marked that, any attempt to alter the district HQ from already notified area/location will lead to communal disharmony which may result in damaging public properties. In view of the seriousness of the matter and situation where people are on the verge of taking law in hand if government continues with the shifting of the district HQ, the Siang District HQ Welfare Committee has also decided to suspend the activities of the committee for a while. While protesting the statehood day, the people attending the meeting have appealed the state government to stop shifting of the already notified district HQ.

“Trying to shift the already notified HQ due to any political interference is very unfortunate and the Chief Minister and other state Cabinet Ministers must understand our serious grievances and appeals in case of any discussion or decision upon the matter in any upcoming cabinet sittings”, said Tapang Jamoh and Tatok Panor. People have also appealed the state government to establish the Civil Secretariat at the notified site Nyobo (Perang-Lampang) at the earliest time.
