NAHARLAGUN, May 15:

 

Arunachal Pradesh added yet another feather to its cap and created a history of sorts on Monday with the commencement of classes for the first batch of the short-term Film and Television Institute at its temporary campus, Itanagar which is an extended campus of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. The permanent campus will come up at Jote in Papum Pare district in due course.

 

While addressing the first batch of students, faculty members and officers from the department of IPR at a small function before the start of the classes at a city hotel, Director, SRFTI, Kolkata Dr. Debamitra Mitra, told the students that they would be remembered by posterity as the pioneers in the fields of Film and Television and urged them to take the classes seriously adding that for amongst them would become sought-after Directors in the future.

While throwing light on the objectives of opening the institute, Mitra said that Films and Television offer ample opportunities and scopes for the aspiring film and television makers saying that the basic nuances and intricacies of film and television making would be taught by the professionally trained teachers. She thanked the Minister of I&B and the department of IPR, Arunachal Pradesh for the ambitious venture. She further said that all the important ventures have humble beginnings and hoped that the small but significant beginning would grow from strength to strength and attract more students towards the institute. 


The small but attractive function was attended among others by BD Ambedkar, Registrar, Amaresh Chakraborty, Prof. and HoD, Direction and Screenplay Writing, Debasish Guha, Associate Professor, Editing and Course Coordinator, FTI, Itanagar, Partha Das, Maintenance Engineer, Obang Tayeng, Director, IPR, Denhang Bosai, Deputy Director, IPR, Kishore Chakraborty, PGO, IPR, Radhe Tajung, AD, IPR and a host of other guests. It may be mentioned that there are seats available for only 20 students in the first batch which will increase with time.
