Holding placards and shouting slogans students demanded the RGU authorities to provide concessions on examination fees.
Speaking to reporters, General Secretary,Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) Students Union, Kipa Nungtey said that the protest is against the sudden price hike in examination fee in various government colleges in the state.
He said the examination fees which was earlier in the year 2019-20, of around Rupees One Thousand has been increased subsequently for the academic year of 2020-21.
He also said the decision to stage the protest came as students from various colleges are discontented with the lukewarm response of the RGU authorities towards their grievances.
“We have met the Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Saket Kushwaha and placed our grievance, to which the VC assured to bring positive changes for the growth of students after conducting meetings with principles of respective RGU affiliated colleges," he said.
However, after the meeting, the fee structure remains the same which students cannot afford to pay. The RGU authorities have only reduced practical examination fees, he added.
Meanwhile, denying the allegation of examination fees hike, RGU Registrar Dr. N T Rikam said that there is no hike in examination fees.
Existing fee structure was fixed in the academic year 2019-20 with the approvable of the academic council and the same have been running for the past three years.
He said during the lockdown, the fees relaxation of 60 percent for intermediate and 40 percent for terminal students as examinations were made as examinations were conducted online.
“But, now as physical classes have started and so physical examinations will be conducted; therefore the authorities have decided to implement a fee structure for 2019-20 with additional 15 percent relaxation on practical examinations fee,” he said.
Stating that there is no price hike in examination fee as it remains the same, Rikam informed that almost all RGU affiliated colleges have completed filling up the examination forms.
