ITANAGAR, May 11:Governor PB Acharya presided over the first meeting of the Autonomous Puroik Welfare Board at Raj Bhavan today.

Ten members of the 14-members board including Chairman Satya Gopal, Principal Secretary (Coordination), members Mesam Soja, Takia, Kapa Kholie, Secretary Labour and Employment, Dani Salu, Secretary Rural Development, Madhu K Garg, Secretary Social Justice, Empowerment & Tribal Affairs, Yeshi Wangmo Ringu, Secretary Finance and members from financial institutes nominated by the Chief Minister Dilip Kumar Datta, AGM, State Bank of India, Itanagar and Dr. Gyanendra Mani, General Manager, NABARD, Itanagar and member secretary of the Board Yumlam Kaha, Director SJETA  attended the meeting.

Special invitees, Rajeev Takuk, Deputy Commissioner, East Kameng District, Kangki Darrang, Deputy Commissioner, Kurung Kumey and Taw Tebin, former Director Social Justice, Empowerment & Tribal Affairs were also present as resource persons.

Presiding over the meeting, the Governor advised the board members to be proactive and go out of the way to ensure that members of the Puroik community are socially and financially empowered. He asked them to prepare the constitution at the earliest and give responsibilities to each and every member such as health, education, women welfare, sports and resettlement.

The Governor said that as the board is constituted, it must rise to the expectation of the community.  

Sharing the experiences and pain of his visit to Arunachal Pradesh in 1967, when he saw a bonded Puroik individual for the first time, the Governor said that as opportunity has been given to him again to serve the people of the State, his priority has been for upliftment of disadvantage groups of people like Puroiks.

The Governor suggested for well furnished office in the State Secretariat and within a time frame in the all the five districts of East Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Papum Pare and Lower Subansiri.

There should be a separate budget provision, reservation in employment and special focus on skill development training and entrepreneurship for them. He also stressed that central schemes and programmes must reached to the community and board should explore ways to address the challenges. They must be given priority under Food Security Act.

The Governor called upon the financial institutions to provide financial assistances to the community under Corporate Social Responsibilities.

Chairman of the APWB, Shri Satya Gopal, Principal Secretary (Coordination) emphasised on time bound action plan for enrolment of the Puroik Community under Jan Dhan Yojana, Aadhar Card and registration under labour and employment. He suggested for houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for them and asked the RD Secretary to look into the issue.

   The board members shared their experiences and aspirations from the board. They expressed their gratitude to the Governor for his initiatives and special care for the downtrodden. Since taking over as the Governor, Acharya has been stressing for constitution of the board.
