ITANAGAR, Jan 31:

In the final leg of his three-day tour of Tirap Longding and Changlang Districts, Governor BD Mishra visited Jairampur in Changlang District today.

Addressing a public meeting, the Governor said that the Central Government under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving special focus to bring development and prosperity in the north east region.

There are more than 28 schemes and programmes of Central and State Government being implemented in the district. To ensure the success of these welfare programmes, the people of the district must ensure that there is transparency, accountability, continuity, audit and review and mid course correction, he said underscoring that people they must participate in the developmental process.

Sharing his concern about health and education, the Governor said that the State requires infrastructure, equipment, critical specialists and staff in health sector and teachers and infrastructure in education. He informed that issues have been taken up at various levels to mitigate the challenges including seeking assistance of all India based volunteers.

Reiterating his concern about opium cultivation and abuse and gun culture, the Governor called upon the people to put in concerted effort to address the problem of Tirap, Longding and Changlang District.

Speaking on the occasion, Local MLA and Parliamentary secretary, Legal Metrology& Consumer Affairs, Laisam Simai highlighted the aspiration of the people of Changlang District including special employment drive for TLC youth, enhancement of Border Area Development, Degree College, Sainik School and rehabilitation centre.

Later the Governor and the First Lady of the State visited the World War II cemetery and laid wreaths at the War Memorial.

Making it as a regular feature to visit schools and health facilities in their tours, they visited the community health Centre, Jairampur, interacted with the medical officers and staffs and distributed fruits to the indoor patients.  

The Governor and the First lady of the State also visited the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Jairampur on the day and planted saplings.

The Governor also distributed Solar Lights to villagers and Gaon Burahs of thirty villages of Changlang District in the 13 Assam Rifles cantonment at Jairampur.

600 Solar Lights were distributed on the occasion under ‘Assam Rifles Civic Action Plan’.

In his address on the occasion, the Governor appreciated the zeal and commitment of the officers and all ranks of Assam Rifles. He felicitated them for their good works as the ‘Friends of the North East People’.

The Governor expressed his hope that benevolent actions under ‘Assam Rifles Civic Action Plan’ will further reinforce and promote goodwill amongst the people towards the security forces.
