ITANAGAR, Feb 3:
More than eighteen NGOs working in different fields participated in a consultative meeting organized by Movement for Unified Multifaceted Knowledge Interaction Network (MUMKIN) at NERIST auditorium, Nirjuli on Saturday.
Intellectuals, retired bureaucrats, professors, thinkers and student leaders joined the meeting.
Delivering speech on the campaign against corruption titled ‘Livelihood for all’ and ‘One Person One Profession’, Dr. Tara Taku exhorted that everyone, from a common man to a bureaucrat is corrupted today in some way.
Mentioning that too much expectations is the root cause of corruption, Taku said “Every structure raised and properties amassed by bureaucrats, public leaders should be properly scrutinized and recorded by vigilance teams.”
Pointing out that people in Arunachal talk of corruption a lot but seldom look for ways to check it, Dr. Nani Bath underscored the urgent need of implementation of Lokayukta and Lokpal in the state and righteous use of RTI by activists as weapon to check corruption.
Asserting that RTI should be utilized properly not for self benefit, Dr Bath however said that to get a meaningful result we must regulate electoral procedure and stand against tax evasion.
Dwelling on the legal procedures and laws, Senior Adv TT Tara lamented that despite being armed with numerous legal procedures, our people get suppressed by power and money of the people in power.
Apprising the house about success of a case through which State Human Rights Commission has been established in state, Tara while assuring full legal support in the NGO’s fight against corruption divulged about a PIL filed for establishment of the Lokayukta bill and hoped that it would be successful.
Highly appreciating the movement, Professor Dr Tado Karlo suggested for constitution of a working committee to transform the campaign into a mass movement.
On the topic “One Person One Profession” Dr Karlo opined that one person holding multiple posts and professions is a violation of human rights and a corrupt practice.
Engineer Tomi Ete lamented that the persons who are entrusted with power to guide, help and serve society are looting it. “We have to try to change the mindset of society through positive campaigns and rope-in the youth to make them understand about corruption,” he added.
MUMKIN Chairman Tadar Niglar gave a power point presentation on corruption. The meeting concluded with adoption of a resolution to form committees to channelize the campaign.
