REILA (Recreation, entertainment, information & literary activities), the annual week celebration of Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic (RGGP) started here on Monday. The programme was inaugurated by education minister Honchun Ngandam in presence of secretary education Dr Madhu Rani Teotia.
Ngandam while inaugurating the meet advised students to take their studies seriously while they have the opportunity to achieve their desired goals in life.
Mentioning that students are the only hope that can bring reformation in future society, Ngandam exhorted the students to channel their energies towards gaining knowledge in order to contribute their share towards the development of the state and nation.
Expressing concern over many students getting lured towards the wrong path, Ngandam appealed the students not to spoil their academic progression by indulging in unwanted activities and use education as a weapon to bring healthy transformation in society.
Later highlighting various initiatives being undertaken by the state government in ensuring holistic development of the education sector, the education minister also assured to look into the memorandum submitted by the Student Union of Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic (SURGGP).
In this regards, he asked the principal of the institute to submit a detailed report to his office so that impediments can be addressed immediately.
Applauding the young girls in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS), Secretary Education Dr. Madhu Rani Teotia termed the mass participation of girls in NCC and NSS as an inspiration for all and pointed out that the new generation of women in the state are no less than men.
Optimistic that the present generation of girls, will prove an asset in the development of state in the coming years, she said that her office will be always open for students who seeks support in education related issues.
Principal of RGGP College AK Tripathy and General Secretary SURGGP apprised the Minister about the problems faced by the college authorities through a memorandum which include demands for upgradation of Degree College including , infrastructural development, increment of REILA fund from 1 Lakh to 2 Lakhs etc.
DNGC senior faculty members, MQ Khan and Dr. NT Rikam, NEFTU Vice Chancellor Dr. Tejum Padu, NHPC Executive Director Ronel Kumar, Commanding Officer 1 AP Bn (NCC) Lt. Col NK Bishnoi were present on the day.
