NEW DELHI, Oct 14:

Governor BD Mishra inaugurated the two-day National Convention on the theme ‘Transforming North East India’ at New Delhi on Saturday. The two-day convention is being organised by Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, Mumbai in association with the Himalayan University, Itanagar. Participants from 18 States, including delegates from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland are participating in the convention.

The Guest of Honour of the function and Chairman, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Dr Braj Bihari Kumar and Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, and Vice Chairman, Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe addressed the inaugural session. They advocated for inclusion of history of NE region in Indian History and the need for increased interaction between the people of NE region and rest of country.

In his inaugural address, the Governor emphasised that innovative and sustainable ideas discussed and evolved in the convention should come out of the room and be reflected in action on the field.

Reiterating Prime Minister’s statement that “unless Northeastern region develops, India will not progress”, the Governor emphasised on the need of ensuring that the benefits of all the developmental projects reach the targeted population and the projects are implemented in letter and spirit and within the given time frame.

Sharing his experience of Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh since 1964, the Governor said that people of the region are simple, hardworking and very honest. He added that the talented human resources of North East needs to be tapped and directed towards the development of the whole nation.

Sensitizing the people against ‘gun culture’ in the region, the Governor called on the people to guide, advise, educate and motivate the youth to shun violence and be with the mainstream for their own development and development of the State, Region and Nation.

Citing the terrible losses suffered by civil society in the Jaffna peninsula of Sri Lanka due to the gun culture of the LTTE, the Governor said that the gun culture and violence never helps.
