One Kayon Apum from Sigar village under Mebo Sub-Division, claims that his agricultural land was destroyed by the river current due to diversion constructed by the BRTF at Siku Bridge point during 2015.

“Siku river had never flowed towards our village, Sigar, even in the huge flooding period in the past, but the construction caused change of the river course which damaged my agricultural land,” he claims.

After the district administration was approached by the affected family, a damage assessment  report was also prepared jointly by the officials of ADC, EAC, CO, HDO, AE (PWD), AE (WRD), Mebo Sub-Division which was submitted to the concern Chief Engineer of Project Brahmank including several correspondence. In their assessment report, the officials had remarked that the damage had occurred due to change in river course because of the diversion constructed.

Despite all formalities done and properly assessed and verified by the state government officials, the BRTF however is trying to play down the matter, the family claims.

“Now I am almost on the streets as my livelihood the WRC field has been completely washed away. My last option is to sit on a hunger strike with all my children and wife in front of the BRTF office,” a desperate Apum said.

When a team of media led by this reporter including correspondents from Assam news TV channel came to interview the Chief Engineer regarding authenticity of the allegation and BRTF’s response on the matter, the officials concern declined to meet and speak to the media.

Now the concern family is asking help from Government of Arunachal Pradesh including Lok Sabha MP, Ninong Ering and MoS Kiren Rijiju to intervene in the matter.
