ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Hundreds of people from the Galo community participated in the six hours peaceful dharna organized by the Core Committee on Lower Siang District (Kora Circle) issue, demanding the state government to implement Arunachal Pradesh (Re-organization of district) Amendment Act 2013 and to notify appointed date for the functionalization of Lower Siang district at IG Park in the state capital on Monday.
The dharna was participated by the members of Galo Peoples Federation (GPF) along with Galo Students Union (GSU), Galo Youth Organisation (GYO) and others.
Speaking to reporters here, Chairman of GPF, Nyadar Loya said the demands are legitimate and fundamental. However, despite the passage of almost seven years, the state government is still reluctant in approving any proper policy to demarcate and notify the functionalization of Lower Siang District.
He said the Galo community has no differences with the Adi community nor there is any boundary disputes falling under the Lower Siang District. The only point is for the need for demarcation of district boundaries.
“The 36th Nari-Koyu constituency and 28th Likabali constituency falls under the recently created Lower Siang district which was named by the state government itself. Therefore, the state government should immediately act on their decision,” he added.
He also said that GPF rejects the Hage Tari Committee for overruling and rejecting the final report submitted by the Group of Ministers (GoM).
Loya further added, the state government should immediately declare the district 'full-fledged', by implementing Arunachal Pradesh (Re-organization of district) Amendment Act 2013".The state government should adhere to the state gazetted notification issued in the year March, 2014 in respect of Lower Siang District with its original boundary in totality.
Meanwhile, the GSU along with GPF has threatened to go for Jail Bharo Andolan and create an economic blockade in the entire Galo inhabited districts following the failure of the state government to address their demands immediately.
