ITANAGAR, Oct 13:Along with the rest of the world, Arunachal also observed the International Day for Disaster reduction with serious of programmes across the state.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Capital Complex in collaboration with NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) 12th Bn Doimukh organised a mock exercise on earthquake at Arunadaya Higher Secondary school Itanagar today. During the programme, an earthquake scenario was created in the school campus. 

The Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman DDMA, Prince Dhawan, informed that the mock drill has been conducted with an aim to educate people on how to conduct themselves during such disasters. The DC stressed that it would be a learning experience for everyone to know their role in such a scenario.

The Director, Disaster Management, Kanto Danggen  appealed everyone to take utilisation of the mock drill as it will provide basic knowledge regarding various safety tips during disasters and how to cope with it in case of its occurrence. 

‘As earthquake does not come knocking, everyone should be aware of the basic steps before the rescue teams arrive,’ he said.

Working of the EOCs (Emergency Operating Centre) and 24 hours toll free helpline number ‘1077’ issued by the DDMA was also highlighted.

 Earlier, the NDRF team gave brief demonstration on the basic steps/ techniques of rescue during disaster and also highlighted the use of improvised tools/ methods from locally available resources. The NDRF team displayed several techniques for rescuing people in distress as well as displayed different rescue equipment.

At YUPIA,

The day was observed in a befitting manner at Upper Primary School.

DC cum Chairman DDMA, Tai Kaye advised the students to stay safe and always be prepared for any disaster. He further asked the students to share the knowledge gained through the programme to their parents and friends and enlightened them about the disaster preparedness and its risk reduction. 
            

At ZIRO,

At the programme held in the DC Office complex, here today, DC Kemo Lollen lauded the efforts of the Disaster Management Department in creating awareness and also suggested for holding such programs on larger scale for greater outreach. 

In the wake of frequent fire accidents in Ziro, he appealed to the citizens to desist from illegal power tapping, which is the main cause for fire accidents due to short circuit. 

At AALO,

The day was observed at Kendriya Vidyalaya School, Aalo. On the occasion, SFO, Imme Ngomdir along with his team from fire station, Aalo, spoke on disasters, its causes and precautionary measures. Mock drill was also conducted during the programme.
