ITANAGAR, Oct 28: 

 

Devender Kumar of Himachal Pradesh emerged as the champion of Tawang MTB Challenge 2017 while Yogesh Kumar of Haryana and Arunachal’s Ahondo Menjo bagged the second and third spot respectively in the final stage of the event today.

Earlier, in the morning, the 6th and final day of the competition was flagged off from Jang by Pema Dorjee, Circle Officer at 0900 hrs covering a distance of 40 km.

The competition was flagged in by Chief Minister Pema Khandu at the festival ground in presence of local MLA Jambey Tashi, District Administration, Festival committee and huge gathering of public.

Devender Kumar, Yogesh Kumar and Mahinder Singh finished first, second and third respectively in the final day of the competition. However, after compilation of six days scoring of an individual, the technical committee declared Devender Kumar as the champion of MTB Tawang Cycling competition 2017 who walked away with a cash award of Rs 50,000 while Yogesh Kumar Ahondo Menjo received Rs 35,000 & Rs 20,000 for second and third position respectively. Six other participants got consolation prize of Rs.5000 each.  

Chief Minister Pema Khandu gave away the prizes to the winners and participants this evening at the festival ground.

Yesterday, the 5th day of MTB Tawang challenge cycling competition was flagged off by ADC, Dirang, Kento Riba, in presence of NIMAS officers & public at Dirang at 0800 hrs. It was one of the toughest routes for the riders passing through Sela Pass at an altitude of 1300 ft. The weather condition was favourable.

The Department of Youth Affairs has extended gratitude to all the Administrative officers of different places under West Kameng & Tawang District for their logistic support & cooperation. It also extended thanks to the technical support by Indian cycling Federation, Manipur Cycling Association & Arunachal cycling Association and all the participants without whose participation, the event could not be a successful  one.

This six-day event was conducted not only to promote mountain biking in the state but with an objective to generate a mass awareness to stay fit, healthy and strong.
