ITANAGAR, Oct 26: In a significant development, the Gauhati High Court, Itanagar Permanent Bench, Naharlagun has passed an Order in W.P. (C) 721 (AP)/2017 titled Ongla Umbon and 130 Others- Versus- The State of Arunachal Pradesh  directing   the  Chief Secretary, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh to  consider the grievances of the SSA teachers (petitioners) like enhancement of monthly pay on the principle of “equal pay for equal work” and grant of maternity benefit, Child Care Leave etc made in the joint Representation dated 10/08/2017 within a period of 3 months from the date of receipt of the certified copy of the order.

While arguing on behalf of the petitioners, Advocates CW Mantaw, M Nibo and H Lampu in the High Court stressed   that,   the petitioners are SSA teachers serving in different Schools under Changlang district. Earlier they had filed Joint Representation dated 30/08/2017 before the respondent authorities praying for enhancement of their monthly pay on the principle of “equal pay for equal work” and grant of maternity benefits etc propounded by the Supreme Court of India in the case of The State of Punjab –versus- Jagjit Singh, 2017 (1) SCC, 148 wherein it was held that, all the temporary employees are entitled to equal pay for equal work at par with the regular employees.

Earlier, on October 5 last, the petitioners have threatened the government through media to approach the Court if their grievances in the representation are not fulfilled. The petitioners have also relied upon the some other judgments rendered by the Gauhati High Court including the Judgments of the Itanagar Bench.
