Itanagar: Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) condoled the sudden and tragic demise of the Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat in a helicopter crash.
The Governor, who had very close interaction with the CDS and knew him very well, said that in the passing away of General Rawat, India has lost a great patriot, great strategist, a gallant soldier and an outstanding general. General Rawat as the Chief of the Army Staff and as the Chief of the Defence Staff, had taken many revolutionary steps to raise the capability, credibility, fighting ability and deterrence values of the Indian Army and the strategic integration of the various arms and services for the Indian Armed Forces. He always stressed on optimum use of the nation and military resources and initiated several exceptional austerity measures.
As the Chief of Defence Staff of India, General Rawat started the innovative concept of ‘Integrated Battle Groups’ and more importantly the ‘Theatre Command’, the Governor said.
The Governor, who met the CDS at New Delhi recently on 12th November and discussed about border security and border areas development of Arunachal Pradesh and Arunachali youths recruitment said that General Rawat was a friend of the people of Arunachal Pradesh. He always took the best steps for the security of the people of the State, while supporting all welfare projects of the State.
The Governor said that General Rawat had endorsed waiving off a very large sum of dues of the State with Indian Air Forces and strongly backed construction of strategic roads in Arunachal Pradesh.
