ITANAGAR, Oct 30:Governor BD Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have conveyed warm greetings to the people of the State on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, which commemorates the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.

In his message, the Governor said that Sardar Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister of India, also known as the Iron Man of India, accomplished the herculean task of integrating 565 Princely States into the Indian Union after Independence in 1947. It was due to his vision and political acumen that India is one and united. His matchless sense of patriotism and political will invokes a strong spirit of nationalism in every Indian, he added.

On the occasion, the Governor has appealed to the people of Arunachal Pradesh to stand united and rise well above the walls of caste, creed, race, region and religion for a stronger and better India. He exhorted all to uphold the values and the spirit of Rashtriya Ekta and pass it on to the future generation.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu in a message here this evening, said observance of the day provides an opportunity to re-affirm inherent strength and resilience of the nation to withstand actual and potential threats to unity, integrity and security of the country.

“In India’s Independence struggle, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played a major role in organizing peasant’s movements on Gandhian principles in Gujarat and during the Quit India Movement. His biggest contribution to the country was his role in integration of over 500 princely states with India during 1947-49,” said Khandu paying rich tributes to Sardar Patel, who also became the first Deputy Prime Minister and the first Home Minister of India.

Khandu hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for mooting the idea of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas in 2014 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.

The Chief Minister called upon the people to reiterate their faith on the principle of unity in diversity as the strength of India. He also called upon the civil servants to re-dedicate themselves to nation building on the birth anniversary of the person, who is known as the patron saint of civil servants of India for being instrumental in establishing the modern all-India civil services.
