ITANAGAR, Nov 8: Hundreds of people from the Buddhist community including members from Chime Yangsang Pemakod Welfare Society (Tuting) participated in the peaceful candlelight march organized to protest the arson of Gonpa at Riwotala, Tuting in Upper Siang District.
Speaking to the media, President, CYPWS- Michung Khampa said that they are not against any community but the culprits involved in the arson and vandalism of Gonpa constructed at Singga circle Upper Siang. The incident occurred between 16 October to 24 October last.
‘Such incident is not new for us. We the Buddhist community always ignored such act but this time culprits have vandalized and set fire to the Gonpa that has hurt the sentiments of the people. An FIR was lodged on 28th October last but till date, no arrest has been made,' he said.
When asked if there is any dispute of land, the President claimed that for the last 200 years the place is sacred for the Buddhist community and they are visiting the place for worship. He also disclosed that earlier they used to worship in an open area in a particular location, so they have selected a place and constructed a Gonpa. Moreover, the place has no road communication and is situated at 1300 feet, so it takes at least one and half days to reach on foot. “There is no question of LPC, as it is a no man's land; most of the time it is covered with snow," Khampa said.
The place is called Riwotala, and regarded as a pilgrimage site not only by the Buddhist community but for others too, So, we urge the government to arrest the culprits who were involved in the incident, stated President, CYPWS- Michung Khampa.
