ITANAGAR, Jan 19:Former Minister Tako Dabi passed away after prolonged illness on Thursday night at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences. Dabi, who earlier represented the Nari Koyu constituency in the East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh was a senior Congressman.

Born on 8th August 1957, in Tene village, Late Dabi had graduated from JN College, Pasighat and did his B.ED from Dibrugarh University and was a teacher by profession. He started his political career in the year 1990 and won the MLA seat from the 36 Nari-Koyu constituency consecutively for 5 terms. During his tenure as law maker, he served the state in various capacities. He served as the Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, held Home, Education, WRD, Agriculture, Horticulture portfolios as Minister till 2014. 

 

Chief Minister Pema Khandu while deeply mourning his demise in a condolence letter to Late Dabi’s wife, said “In his demise, our state has lost a seasoned politician and a person of high probity who was disciplined and committed. I believe, leaving this mortal world will not diminish the love and affection showered on him by the people and his god-fearing soul will remain immortal.”

 

Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein in his condolence message to Smt Miti Moyong Dabi, said that State has lost a veteran leader, a mature politician and he a good old friend forever in him. ‘His demise has created a vacuum in society and he will always be remembered for his contributions to the people of the State in various capacities,’ Mein said.

 

BJP, Arunachal Pradesh held a condolence meeting at its headquarters today. President Tapir Gao recalling his long association with late Dabi termed him a straight forward man and one of the pioneers in creation of Lower Siang district.

Former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee including the Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress have also condoled the passing of Tako Dabi.

Tuki, in his condolence message, said that the trends set by late Dabi  in all departments he had worked would serve as examples for present and future leaders to follow his footsteps. Such leaders with clarity in vision and wisdom are rare in present days.

I join the state in deeply mourning his sad demise and pray for eternal peace of the departed soul, he said.  

 

The APCC held a condolence meeting today at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, Itanagar and observed two minutes silence. The party flag will fly half mast in its office for two days as a mark of respect to the great soul.

 

President APCC, Takam Sanjoy, recalled his close association with late Dabi and described him as a vibrant leader and true Congress loyalist. 

‘He was a compassionate human being, people-friendly, man of discipline & principle, and a personality with a great political wisdom.  A leader of great stature, his immense contribution to build the party in the State through its thick and thin, right from the grassroots level shall always be remembered by the party,’ he said terming his death an irreparable loss for the Congress party in particular and State as a whole. 

            

A party delegation will attend the last rites which will take place on Saturday at Nari, Lower Siang District on behalf of Indian National Congress party.

 Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) said that Dabi’s demise will create an irreparable vacuum in the state. The PPA is grateful to him as he is one of the leaders in the state who brought the spirit of regional politics in the state by representing PPA as one of its elected legislators, it stated in a release.

 

Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) has mourned the demise of veteran leader of Adi-Galo communities, Tako Dabi.

Bodong Yirang, Secretary General, ABK said that, Dabi’s death is an irreparable loss for the state particularly for both Adi & Galo communities who are maintaining true spirit of brotherhood since time immemorial. ABK remembered late Dabi as a great leader of the then undivided Adi who had contributed a lot for both societies.

"It has been an honour to know late Tako Dabi for 30 years and be able to call him friend & a brother. His passing is a tremendous loss to his family, friends, to the entire Galo Community, his political party and above all to the people of Arunachal Pradesh but he will live in our hearts. We will fondly be reminded his dedicated service to the state of Arunachal Pradesh,” said former minister L Wanglat. 

 

The Galo Peoples' Front (GPF) also expressed its deepest condolences.In him, the GPF has lost an Advisor, a Pathfinder and a teacher of all discipline whose absence and vacuum thus created would never be filled. The Galo Society has lost one of its real son who was fearless, straight forward and corrupt-free politician, a unique distinction in Arunachal context, it said in a release. 

Former Minister Eken Riba has also mourned the demise of Tako Dabi and has expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.

In his demise, Arunachal Pradesh has lost a seasoned politician and a person of high integrity and someone who was committed towards the development of state, said the All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) said while mourning Dabi’s death.
