Tourism Children’s Festival

ITANAGAR, Oct 22:The first lady of the state, Neelam Mishra graced the valedictory function of Tourism Children’s Festival at Science Centre, Indira Gandhi Park, Itanagar on Sunday. In her first official engagement, the first lady gave away trophies, certificates and cash awards to the winners of the various competitions conducted on the occasion of Tourism Children’s Festival organised by the Department of tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

In her maiden address, Smt Mishra said the state is abundantly blessed with nature’s bounty which provides large number of opportunities for development and prosperity. She exhorted all to join hands together to harness the potential with a holistic approach.

While highlighting the importance of tourism in the development of the State, she emphasised on ensuring proper means of communication for tourists and others interested people for sustainable tourism in Arunachal Pradesh.

Felicitating the children for being part of the ‘Paryatan Parv’, State’s First Lady extended her good wishes to them. She said that they are the children of land of Rising Sun and they must shine like the Morning Sun.

Impressed by the cultural programme presented by the children, particularly the students of Donyi Polo Mission School for Hearing and Visually Impaired, Chimpu, Smt Mishra said that she will be associating herself with the children of the school and the State. She called upon the parents and guardians of differently-abled children to work to bring out the best of their wards, who need special care, motivation and patient.  

Parliamentary Secretary Tourism, PD Sona informed that the Tourism Children’s Festival is part of Prime Minister’s effort to popularize tourism by roping in children, who are one of the greatest motivators. He said that tourism helps in inculcating modesty, compassion, knowledge, information and sharing, while stating that 100 miles of travel is more educative than reading 100 books.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Joram Beda, Secretary Tourism briefed on ‘Paryatan Parv’ which started on October 5 and will conclude on 25 next.

Programme includes various tourism awareness programme, tree plantation, sensitization programmes involving stakeholders and students and ethnic cultural events, the Tourism Secretary said, while reiterating Prime Minister’s quote that ‘Terrorism Divides, Tourism Unites’.  

Director Tourism Kanto Danggen also spoke on the occasion.

Large number of children from different schools participated in the festival. Organised with the theme, ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ under ‘Paryatan Parv’, the day-long festival includes storytelling, quiz, singing and drawing competitions, photography workshop, adventure Tourism events, fashion show in ethnic dress, spell bee and musical chair programmes.

In inter school quiz competition with the theme ‘Dekho Apna Desh’, Gyan Ganga Vidyapeeth, Itanagar received the first prize, while Alphabet Public School, Itanagar received the second prize. Govt. Higher secondary School, Itanagar received the third prize.
