ITANAGAR, Dec 3: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was celebrated today across the state with programmes held to celebrate and raise awareness about the differently-abled.
The First Lady of Arunachal Pradesh Neelam Misra visited the Deepak Nabam Living Home (DNLH) at Senki View, Itanagar and interacted with its inmates on the special occasion.
The First Lady said that society,  community and the family members play an important role in determining the participative inclusion, on equal terms, of the differently abled people in social and economic events. She called upon each and every section of society to focus and resolve on providing sustainable livelihood prospects and opportunities for our brethren who are differently abled.
More awareness and understanding of disability issues and limitations, and mobilising mass support for empowering the differently abled persons to cope with the handicaps and enabling them to face the challenges with hope and confidence is required, she said.
The First lady of the State also emphasised that every section of society must focus and resolve on taking care of the destitute, poor and downtrodden. We all have special duty towards our differently abled brethren, she said.
As a token of love, she assured supply of ration to the Deepak Nabam Living Home for a month while appealing to the people of the state capital to come forward and appropriately help the NGO.
At ZIRO, Joining the celebrations Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri Somcha Lowang said that the day is observed  to help everyone become more compassionate and understand the challenges faced by people with disabilities.
"Being  emphatic and supportive towards the differently abled people will help in bringing them to the mainstream. This day should be  used to promote awareness on disability issues and to mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well being of persons with disabilities," she added.
She further advised the students of Government middle school, Dutta to treat disabled classmates with utmost respect and consideration."Inculcating good habits and imbibing a sense of  respect for all fellow beings will make you an excellent and successful human being ," she added.
She also appealed  all to visit Grace Rehabilitation Center at SSB gate run by Apatani Baptist Church and Achu Kuru Children's Home at Old Ziro ,interact with the inmates donate warm clothes.
Deputy Director ICDS Dani Yami dwelt at length on the PWD (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights, and Full Participations) Act, 1995. The day was also observed by  Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Association, Ziro branch (APWWS)  at Grace rehabilitation center, SSB. APWWS Secretary Dusu Amer donated cash and warm clothes and mats to the inmates.

West Siang district celebrated the day at Govt. Secondary School, Aalo  in presence of Deputy Commissioner Penga Tato.
The celebration started with Prabhat ferry in the morning by students followed by various sports, cultural and literary competitions amongst disabled students.
The DC motivated all differently abled students to be competitive in their academic and other spheres of life. He also encouraged parents to avail all government schemes meant for differently abled persons. 
While wishing differently abled persons on the occasion, the DDSE Duken Kato stressed on proper documentation to avail disabled oriented provisions under education department. Winners of various competitions and participants were felicitated  on the occasion.
