NAHARLAGUN, Oct 12: ‘Puroiks are no less than other communities of the state and there should be firm determination for their upliftment,’ said Minister for Culture and Animal Husbandry, Dr Mohesh Chai while attending the 13th foundation day of the All Puroik Students Union (APSU) here at Papunallah.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister also informed that state government is keen to support the Puroik community for their development and upliftment.
‘Though bonded labor is still a black chapter in Arunachal’s history but in contemporary times there is no differences and all are equal, everyone will get equal opportunity,’ added Dr Chai while appealing the youths to make education as their tool for success in life.
Further, appreciating their rich culture, he opined that despite all odds the community has successfully preserved their age-old tradition and culture. While responding to the memorandums submitted by All Puroik Students Union and Puroik Welfare Society, he assured to take up the matter with the Chief Minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary for Home and Education, Pani Taram informed that the government has approved two panchayat segments in Koloriang for the community so that they could participate in electoral process and walk shoulder to shoulder with others.
He also informed that a road to Libya has been sanctioned under RIDF scheme. Moreover through MLALAD fund couple of teachers have been appointed in the Puroik inhabited areas.
While submitting memorandums to the dignitaries, President APSU Bihu Painchey urged for model colony in the capital, proper benefits under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, trainings under Skill Development, proper education and health facility as well as functioning of Puroik Welfare Board.
Among others, President APWS Adang Yachu, Chairman-APB&OCWWB Jalley Sonam, BJP Spokesperson and Patron-APSU, Vijay Sonam also addressed the gathering.
