BASAR, Nov 5:Chief Minister Pema Khandu today attended the second edition of ‘Basar Confluence’, an initiative of Gumin Rego Kilaju (GRK) here today, hosted by members of Galo tribe that offers a month-long residency and a display of folk arts, tribal cuisine and their traditional way of life. 

On arrival at the confluence, the Chief Minister was given a rousing reception by Galo dance troupes numbering about more than 500 dancers. He was accompanied by State BJP President Tapir Gao, Deputy Speaker Tumke Bagra, Home Minister Kumar Waii, Parliamentary Secretaries Jarkar Gamlin and Gojen Gadi including Nari Koyu MLA Kento Rina.  

Khandu and the guests were given traditional welcome by dance party and warrior dancers. A Mega dance by Galo women followed which was participated by dancers from nearby villages.  

The Chief Minister in his speech assured to fund the celebration of Basar Confluence every year with a sum of Rs 50 lakhs for its sustenance beginning with this year’s celebration. He also assured to take up the request for the festival to be included as calendar event in the state cabinet.  

Khandu said the festival showcased the dependency of people on agriculture and said the festival did a good job by promoting organic produces. He said the state government has set the target of 3 years to make Arunachal an organic state.  

Earlier Home Minister in his speech said that other Abo Tani tribes has lot to learn from Basar people regarding community participation and their commitment for a better society. He extended his festival greetings and expressed to participate again.  

Deputy speaker also spoke on the occasion.  

The Chief Minister and the guests after completion of the formal event took a round of the festival compound. They were introduced to traditional Galo way of life with exhibition of traditional games, fishing, rural occupation and traditional house.
