 PASIGHAT, Oct 26:Chairman, Central Silk Board (CSB), Ministry of Textiles, KM Hanumantharayappa, who is on a two day visit to East Siang on Thursday, assessed the progress of Sericulture projects implemented under Intensive Bivoltine Sericulture Development Project (IBSDP) under NERTPS (North East Regional Textile Promotion Scheme).

Hanumantharayappa toured the Sericulture farms & Rearing Centers at New and Old Borguli and Seram, Debing, Rayang, Sille, and took stock of the development works.

Interacting with women beneficiaries under the schemes, he encouraged them to take up the profitable venture of Sericulture for their economic upliftment and get maximum yield by availing all the technical know-how and assistance provided by Sericulture staff.

 

Addressing the beneficiaries of the Mulberry cluster groups at Chawki Rearing Centre, Borguli, the CSB Chairman, who is also a well known Seri culturist, said that Centre is taking a keen interest in developing Sericulture activities in the states owing to its huge potential in the sector.

“There is huge demand and market for Mulberry and other Silks, and the NE Region and Arunachal Pradesh in particular  can become a forerunner in providing these products to whole country,” he underscored adding that to make the program successful all stakeholders must intensify efforts and work with a missionary zeal to successfully implement IBSDP in the state.

He also reiterated on providing farmers the proper trainings and stressed on creating awareness on subsidy support for farming tools and equipment to help the beneficiaries for optimum yield and production.

Director Textiles and Handicrafts, Haj Dodung, and Joint Director, Textiles and Handicraft,  Barnali Sur, also apprised the efforts and activities made by the department to promote Sericulture activities.

Meanwhile the farmers also apprised and sought support in procuring tools and machines under NERTPS and sought support for setting up more Rearing Centers.
