ITANAGAR, Oct 9:    ‘We allowed more than 50 years to Chakma- Hajong refugees to stay in our land  and now it’s the duty of the Centre to deport or settle them elsewhere in India,  as Arunachal has its own  protected laws,’ said Member of Lok Sabha (East) Ninong Ering.

Responding to query of reporters, Ering said on various occasions, he has raised voice against the granting of citizenship to Chakma-Hajong refugees in Parliament and politicizing the issue at this hour is not good for the state.

If the government grants citizenship to refugees staying in Arunachal, what about those who are already settled in Mizoram, Tripura, Chittagong Hills and other places. We played our part by giving them shelter for last 50 years, so now it’s the Centre’s turn to take back all of them as our state is protected by Bengal Eastern Frontier Act.

Meanwhile, when reporters questioned former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki  on the issue of Tibetan Rehabilitation policy (TRP) , he asserted that we respect the refugees as our guest ,so they should stay here as guests and they should not go out of their designated rules and location.

“Policy for Tibetans was already there during my tenure also and being the Chief Minister, I visited various settlement areas,’ Tuki said adding that he has no idea of any amendments in the recent rehabilitation policy.
