ITANAGAR, May 18:
Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Sudarshan Bhagat, today said that the Centre is willing to assist the progress of North Eastern states especially Arunachal Pradesh in the field of agriculture, horticulture, fishery and dairy development.
Terming these sectors as a great medium of development in the state, he asked the officers to protect the welfare of farmers. Bhagat also asked the officers to select and give priority to sectors which take less time but generate speedy income for poor families such as poultry.
The Minister who was on his maiden visit to the State said this during his interaction with the officers of the departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fishery and animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Developments to get first-hand information of theirs activities at Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall, Itanagar before leaving for New Delhi on Thursday.
During the interaction, the four departments through power point presentation apprised the Minister of the departmental achievements and progress, other related issues and problems being faced by them while also seeking central assistance for expediting development in these fields.
Further, the Minister also informed that the Centre has initiated various new schemes for the welfare of farmers and asked them to impart the training to farmers so that they could become organic farmers.
Bhagat also asked to encourage tribal farming system and protect their interests and welfare in near future.
During the meeting, Commissioner, Horticulture, Belatee Partin and Secretary, Agriculture, Azimul Haque and other officers of concerned departments were present.
