ITANAGAR, Dec 29: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has informed that Chief Minister Pema Khandu has assured to table the ‘Offspring’ Bill (draft) in the next state assembly session.
Speaking to media , General Secretary,AAPSU Tobom Dai informed that the CM has also assured to resolve the matters relating to immediate appointment of Vice Chancellor and staff in Arunachal University, Chakma & Hajong issue and interstate boundary dispute.
The union had met with the CM to discuss the matters.
“CM has assured to solve the offspring matter and accordingly table it in a form of Bill draft in the assembly after going through the meeting result of various stakeholders, CBOs and others which was held on September 15, 2018,” Dai said, adding that concern and outcomes of state level committee will also be looked into.
The issue could have been resolved earlier, however it was delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic and former SJETA Secretary, he added.
Dai said, the limited intake capacity of students in the lone Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) has been a serious problem for the students. Therefore, the union has asked the CM to appoint a regular VC and staff for the Arunachal University, Pasighat.
Accordingly, the CM has also assured to appoint VC, assistant professors and staff in phases by the next academic session. The functioning of the university will now be a blessing for those students who can’t afford private university or remain stagnant due to limited seats in RGU.
Speaking on the shifting of Chakma & Hajong from the state, Dai said the CM informed that the Changlang Deputy Commissioner has been directed to continue the regular census of the tribe.
Dai yet again stressed that the enumeration of Chakma & Hajongs is not a racial profiling as alleged by Chakma Development Foundation of India (CDFI), rather a regular administrative exercise to maintain the exact data of refugees living in Arunachal Pradesh to safeguard Indigenous people. “Moreover, it was also informed by the CM that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Minister of Law & Justice Kiren Rijiju are serious on the matter,” he said.
Dai said the CMs of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam had earlier met with Shah at New Delhi to resolve the interstate boundary dispute. Eventually both CMs were asked to hold a meeting to solve the matter.
“A meeting of both CMs will be held soon to resolve the matter. In the meantime, any disputes in the boundary will be resolved by DC or higher up officials,” he informed.
