NAHARLAGUN, Jan 25: The 8th National Voters’ Day was observed today with the theme ‘Accessible Elections’. The day aims to increase the enrolment of voters, especially of the newly eligible ones. It is also utilised to spread awareness among voters regarding effective participation in the electoral process. The day was observed across the Arunachal Pradesh today.            

Congratulating the people on the day, Chief Secretary, Satya Gopal said that we are the proud citizens of the largest democracy in the world and we should uphold the democratic traditions and keep the pledge taken on National Voters Day to exercise our franchise in a free and fair manner.  He was addressing a huge gathering at mini ground Yupia today. 

‘In Arunachal Pradesh voters are very conscious and hence the voting percentage is always better than the rest of the country. However our efforts must be for 100% utilisation of voting rights,’ he said. 

 The Chief Secretary also congratulated the young voters, block level officers and state level winners of national quiz competition and essay writing competition from various schools of the state.               

He also lauded the state election department for successful conduct of recent bye elections in the state and hoped that the department will also conduct the forthcoming panchayat and general elections in a peaceful and fair manner.

 The CS also called upon all Head of Departments to pledge to work in team Arunachal spirit to take forward the state towards peace, progress and prosperity and to make Arunachal as one of the best administrative state.  He also asked them to work in public interest and to maintain honesty and transparency in work. 

 
Chief Electoral Officer Kaling Tayeng in his welcome address also appealed the voters to exercise their voting rights in a free and fair manner without any inducement and influence during elections. He expressed happiness for successful completion of Electoral Summary Roll in the state recently.        

Deputy Commissioner Papum Pare Tai Kaye highlighted the status of the district and apprised the Chief Secretary that Papum Pare is implementing all central and state flagship programmes smoothly and successfully.

  During the felicitation programme the winners of state level winners of national election quiz, essay writing competition 2017-18, outstanding Booth Level Officers (BLOs), young voters with new EPICs and mementoes to participating troops were presented.  Other attractions of the day were cultural programme by Tigdo village women group, band display by VKV, Nirjuli, National Anthem by students of Govt Girls’ School, Yupia and guard of honour by 31stBN ITBP.     

The department of IPR also joined the nation in celebrating the NVD at Polo Colony, Naharlagun.
To mark the occasion, the officers and staff of the department took voters pledge by reposing faith in the Indian Democracy and to uphold the democratic traditions of the country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections. The voters pledge was administrated by IPR Director, Obang Tayeng. 

AT ROING,

Enumerating on the theme, Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom termed elections as an inclusive process and said people with disabilities and special needs and those neglected should be actively brought into the process.

She also emphasised on the need for all voters to exercise their right to vote and said that voters have the option of NOTA if they were not happy with the choices available to them.

AT BOMDILA,

DC cum DEO Dr. Sonal Swaroop inaugurated the first ever ‘Electoral Literacy Club’ (ELC) in the district headquarters.

Outlining her optimism, she opined that the ELC would not only spearhead awareness about the electoral process in the district but would also nurture voters of tomorrow shaping them into responsible citizens and leaders of New India. The ELC would also instill ethical electoral participation to strengthen democracy too, she added.

Apart from administration of the NVD pledge, the differently abled voters were felicitated and new PVC Epic were distributed to the newly enrolled voters besides cash incentives and mementoes to the winners of the quiz competition.

AT AALO,

Administrating the oath to participants, West Siang District Election Officer, Swetika Sachan said that Election Commission of India is giving thrust and focus on eligible voters to imbibe sense of empowerment and pride among the youths in democratic process of the country.

The CO Election Lijum Ete spelt out importance, significance, handling of EVMs and process of enrollment through power point presentation.

AT PASIGHAT,

Newly enrolled young voters were given EPIC Cards by the District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner, East Siang Tamiyo Tatak. He also honored outstanding BLOs (Booth Level Officers) and   gave away certificates of
commendations for their contribution in field duty for the Summary Roll Revision-2018.

The day was also observed in Hawai and Yingkiong befittingly.
