BOMDILA, Oct 20: To discuss the various issues related to women and youth, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) in collaboration with Women Welfare Centre (WWC) Bomdila & MMK organized one day legal awareness programme on the theme “Property Rights in context of AP Gender Equality & Gender Budgeting, Drugs Abuse Among Youth” here at the circuit house of Bomdila on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, APCSW Chairperson Radhilu Chai Techi highlighted the various works of the commission with the state government for the upliftment of women in society.
She spoke about how women are suffering in society because of lack of gender equality, empowerment, awareness and old customs.
Speaking about the recommendations made by the commission to the state government, Techi said that there should be “a special entrepreneurship package for unemployed girls, 33 percent job reservation for women, establishment of family courts in the state, 33 percent women reservation in the state legislative assembly, 50 percent reservation for women in panchayat, establishment of one working women’s hostel in the capital and there should be dedicated maternity home with all the modern equipments and facilities in the state capital and each district of the state."
She said that the government should consult the APSCW while framing policies for all government departments.
Availing reservation rights is not only enough, women PRI leaders should actively participate in the programme and policies of Panchayati Raj for the overall development, she stated.
Sound development can be only achieved when women are empowered socially, economically and politically, she added.
Congratulating the state government for devolving powers to the panchayat bodies, she sought “the same kind of cooperation and support for the state commission for women.”
APSCW member Techi Hunmai spoke about the history, objectives and roles of the APSCW and the National Commission for Women.
APSCW conducts a legal awareness programme to enlighten the various rights of women. Under social security laws, the government has made various laws for the upliftment, development and protection of women but because of lack of proper knowledge women fail to avail these facilities, she informed.
Resource person Advocate Jyoti Zongluju speaking of gender equality urged the participants to change the pre-conceived notions of differentiating on the basis of gender and give equal opportunities to each irrespective of gender.
Another Resource person Advocate Kamala Dewan informed the various rights on the Arunachal Pradesh Land Settlement and Records Act 2000.
OC Bomdila, K Dev who also attended the programme as a resource person discusses the various problems of drug menace in society. By sharing the symptoms of drug addiction, he urged the parents to inform the Bomdila police department, if they see any of the symptoms in their children. All the necessary support will be provided to control the drug menace in society, he stated.
Members of APSCW also visited Bomdila Police Station and One Stop Centre of ICDS.
With the cooperation of local administration and Mahila Mandal Kendra, Nafra , APCSW also successfully conducted a Legal awareness programme at the community hall of Nafra on Tuesday.  
Awareness programme was attended by the administrative officers, HoDs, NGOs, CBOs, PRI leaders, SHGs, students, members of WWC & MMK and more than 350 people attended the programme. DIPRO
