ITANAGAR, Feb 7:‘Some initiatives leave behind a mark for everyone to remember, such is the effort of the District Administration to transform Itanagar into one of the cleanest cities of India,’ said the Deputy Commissioner while attending a programme organised to distribute sanitary equipment to NGOs/SHGs of Itanagar Municipal Council as well as awareness on installation of GPS tracking on sanitation vehicles and Geo Based Attendance of sanitation staff which would be the first ever solution being implemented in entire North East Region by any municipal body at the auditorium of DN College today.

Citing the big turnaround from being the 3rd dirtiest city in India as per Swachh Survekshan 2016 to becoming the 216th cleanest city in 2017, Prince Dhawan however said that the aim is to bring Itanagar to the top 50 cleanest cities of India in 2018 and sought cooperation of every individual in this endeavour.

He lauded the dedicated team of administrative officers and the IMC who are working hard to ensure that the city is clean. He also thanked the CMEO, councillors and municipal engineers for their constant cooperation and hoped that they would perform their role to ensure the success of the new initiatives.

The GPS tracking on sanitation vehicles would track the real time movement of vehicles and if in case any vehicles doesn’t come to pick up the garbage it would immediately come to the knowledge of concerned authorities through sms and mail. Geo based attendance system for labourers in the form of a wrist band would automatically register the attendance of the labourers within their designated work place. The system would thus bring transparency, accountability and effective management and monitoring of garbage collection.

Details of driver and labourers are available in the websitewww.itanagar.nic.in and every ward has a designated garbage collection vehicle, the DC asserted.

Highlighting the role of NGOs/SHGs who have been outsourced for door to door collection of municipal solid waste, the DC stressed that apart from cleaning and collection of garbage, they should ensure timely collection of garbage collection charge. They should also challan every individual who is caught littering or households that doesn’t hand over garbage to the collectors. He also emphasized upon the importance of segregation of wastes into biodegradable and non-biodegradable.

During the programme, the DC also lauded C-1 SHG who is in charge of ward no 10 for collecting the highest garbage collection charge.

Deputy Chief Councillor Tarh Nachung thanked the Deputy Commissioner for his initiatives and hoped that the system would help bring a better garbage management system.

The CMEO Dr. Olik Taring also highlighted the importance of Swachhta and termed every individual as stakeholder and hoped that the programme would be a fruitful one.

Municipal Executive Engineer Er. Tadar Tarang presented a powerpoint on distribution of sanitary items, solid waste management and centrally controlled command system.

Later, the DC distributed essential sanitation items like jackets, gumboots, raincoat, gloves etc to the sanitation labourers. He also distributed dustbins to the NGOs and directed them to further distribute two dustbins each to every household to segregate wastes at source itself.
