PASIGHAT, Feb 28: In view of ‘Unying Aaran’ festival of Adi community which is slated from first week of March next, the Divisional Forest Officer, D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary has issued strict order banning all types of activities in and around the Sanctuary and has also sought public cooperation in protecting the flora & fauna of the sanctuary.
Following an order issued by Dy. Commissioner, East Siang District, Tamiyo Tatak on 19th February last banning all type of illegal hunting and fishing in the district, the DFO Wildlife, DEWS, Tasang Taga has also issued a strict order on 27th February citing zero tolerance to hunting & fishing in and around the Sanctuary.
While appealing the people of fringe villages, especially, the HGBs, GBs, PRI leaders and civil societies, DFO has sought public cooperation in protecting the flora & fauna of the Sanctuary which is a rare asset of the district in particular and State as a whole.
“I too understand the religious and cultural importance of ‘Unying Aaran’, the hunting festival of our Adis, but as a Park Manager/DFO of the sanctuary I can’t tolerate such illegal activities in and around the sanctuary. Hence, I appeal all concern not to either trespass or carry out any hunting and fishing activities (fishing by using dynamite, chemicals and generator/inverter) failing which the department will initiate serious action against the violators”, said Taga who is a trained Wildlife Expert from Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun.
It is worth mentioning here the much hyped reviving of D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary actually failed to see the complete protection during last 2-3 years due to poor management from the DEWS authorities.
Meanwhile, while filing this report, RFO Sibiyamukh, Damek Koyu said that, his team has already started patrolling and also met GBs of Namsing village for public cooperation.
