ITANAGAR, May 29:Taking strong note of the move of the central government to grant citizenship to Chakma-Hajong refugees in the state, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Monday has appealed to the Chief Minister, Pema Khandu to immediately hold an all political party meeting to discuss the long vexed issue.
In a memorandum submitted today, the AAPSU also urged the Chief Minister to take strong note of the resolution adopted by the union in a Consultative Meeting on the issue on May 27 last.
Strongly criticizing the announcement of the central government as totally “uncalled” and against the interest of indigenous tribe of Arunachal, the apex student body condemned the proposed decision to confer citizenship rights to refugees and stated that “the development clearly exposes the step-motherly and negligent attitude of the central government towards the people of Arunachal.”
Recalling the long fight of the AAPSU on the issue, it said that the shocking decision of the Centre undermining the indigenous populace aspiration and sentiment has once again flustered the minds of the peace loving people of Arunachal Pradesh.
Asserting that the opinions of the masses in the recently held meeting has endorsed the apex students’ body to hold an emergency meeting, the AAPSU strongly urged the CM to immediately convene an emergency meeting within this week taking into consideration the seriousness of the problem, failing which the union stated that it will be compelled to hit the streets and take its own course of action in the form of various democratic process.
The AAPSU further summoned all the District Students’ Union , Branch students’ Union, Community based students’ union, college students’ Union etc by the first week of June to brief them about the development and also discuss the future course of action.
