 25 Scouts, 27 guides bestowed ‘Rajya Puraskar’

 

ITANAGAR, Sep 27:

 

Governor PB Acharya graced the 18th Bharat Scouts and Guides Rajya Puraskar Award ceremony for the State at Raj Bhavan, on Wednesday. He gave away Rajya Puraskar, the highest award in the State for scouts and guides activities to 25 Scouts and 27 guides on the occasion.

In his address, the Governor urged upon the scouts and guides to contribute towards nation building. Be soldiers of ‘New India’, he appealed.

Highlighting national flagship programmes such as Jan Dhan Yojana etc. the Governor emphasised that the youth and students must be nodal agents to create awareness on the welfare programmes of Central and State Governments.

The Governor exhorted them to stand against drug menace, child trafficking and other social evils. He advised them to imbibe skill and join hands to make the State a ‘Golden Arunachal’.

The Patron of Scouts and Guides movement in the State, the Governor also called upon the Bharat Scouts and Guide organisation to foster unity, discipline and patriotism amongst the young minds.

Speaking on the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary for Home and Education, Pani Taram, said that Bharat Scouts and Guides is an organization to mould the youth to be responsible citizens. He advised the students to imbibe discipline and good values and utilize it in the service to society, State and Nation.

The Parliamentary Secretary also called upon the officials of Bharat Scouts and Guides and education department to motivate the youth to be useful citizens.

In his welcome address, Gania Leij, Director School Education cum State Chief Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides informed that Arunachal Pradesh is one of the best States in scouts and guides activities in the country.

Presenting a brief report on scouts and guides activities in the State, P Kalita , State Scout Organizer (SSO)informed that Scouts and Guides movement started in 1958 in the State at Pasighat and then at Ziro in 1961. Today it has 777 units with more than 22,000 members including Cubs, Bulbuls, Scouts, Guides, Rovers and Rangers.

In 2016, three scouts and one guide from Upper Subansiri District and one scout and one guide from Lower Subansiri District received the Rashtrapati (President) Scout and Guide Award, the SSO added.

Kenpi Pakam, State Training Commissioner (Guide) and National Vice President, Bharat Scouts and Guides also spoke on the occasion.

First Lady of the State, Kavita Acharya, Mallo Yam Golo, Deputy Director School Education cum State Commissioner (Guides), C. Lowang, State Guide Organizer (SGO), officials from Bharat Scouts and Guides and education department and special invitees were present on the occasion.

Scouts and guides from 33 schools from 10 districts are participating in the function. Highlights of the ceremony were stalls of Bharat Scouts and Guide, induction ceremony of the Governor as Patron of BSG in the State, patriotic dance dramas by scouts, guides, bulbuls and cubs by school students and First Aid demonstration by Rajya Puraskar awardees.

As the Patron of the Bharat Scouts and Guides in the State, the Governor hosted a lunch for the awardees and officials.
