ITANAGAR, Aug 13:
Former Chief Minister and Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Association (APCA) Patron, Nabam Tuki gave a clarion call to all stakeholders of the state to join hands together to root out corruption from the state.
Tuki made this appeal for ‘corruption-free Arunachal’ in a programme organized today by Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Association at Don Bosco Youth Centre here today.
Terming corruption a fatal social malaise which cripples development activities, Tuki lamented that Arunachal being the land of rising sun today lost its grandeur and beauty due to perpetual menace of corruption which has reached astounding proportions and multiple manifestations within society.
Concerned over abuse of public office and prevailing money culture during elections, Tuki pointed out that it’s right time to start a crusade against this menace to build a society that is safe, secure and prosperous.
Stating that fighting corruption was a collective social responsibility, Tuki called for shunning “money culture” during election saying that “vote ke liye bribe lena aur dena paap hai (Taking and giving bribes for vote is a sin).”  He was of the view that one cannot remain silent on the issue and called for making serious and collective efforts to address the menace.
He also highlighted the role and significance of education and youth in completely eradicating corruption from the society and pointed out it is through giving proper education to youth that face of the society can be changed.
Echoing the same sentiment, APCA advisor and Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Takam Sanjoy in his address said, “corruption is deep rooted in our tribal society which is now spreading like an epidemic affecting all sections of society.”
He also called upon all to discourage money culture while pledging to refuse to participate in bribery in elections and elect a good leader to public office who owe their allegiance to voters rather than to private interests
President Taw Tebin, Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF), General Secretary Toko Teki, APCA General Secretary Pekhi Nabam, Pentecostal Church leader Taw Papu, Don Bosco College, Jully Director Father C C Jose and others also spoke  on the occasion.
