KHENEWA, Aug 18: A training programme on “Packaging practise of King Chilli” under ATMA was conducted by the Department of Agriculture at Khenewa in East Kameng district on August 16 last. The training was attended by the head Gaon Buras, Gaon Buras and farmers of Khenewa block.
Resource person, Joymoni Beyong, ADO Khenewa, enlightened the farmers about the health benefits and economic importance of the crop. She exhorted the farmers to take up its cultivation on a commercial scale, as King Chilli being an endemic crop of the north-eastern states of India, has the huge potential of excelling even in the world market.
She highlighted on the cultivation practices, right from nursery seedbed preparation till harvest. As it is highly susceptible to insect pests and diseases, an integrated approach for their effective control was also emphasized to the farmers.
A B Sono, AFA (Sr) Khenewa, identified the King Chilli growing farmers in the region and selected them as beneficiaries for availing government assistance under RKVY ( King Chilli production programme).
