ITANAGAR, Sep 24: Days after the East Kameng district administration and the state government called of search and rescue efforts for missing mountaineers Tapi Mra and Niku Dao, a team of six mountaineers announced to embark on a search and rescue operation for the missing duo.
Addressing media persons at the Press Club here on Saturday, Tagin Cultural Society, Secretary General Tuter Dulom said that the team will be led by mountaineer Tagit Sorang and accompanied by Taru Hai, Tadi Mra, Nachung Raba, Tanyang Bate and Tana Lui.
An indemnity bond has been signed by the team members in presence of the magistrate and in case of an eventuality during the search operation, it will solely be their (mountaineers) own responsibility, for which they can’t blame the society or the state government later, the TCS said.
“We are thankful to the members for their support for the search operation. Likewise, we also appeal to mountaineers from the state who are willing to accompany the team may come forward for the greater good of the family of Tapi Mra,” he said adding that those interested will have to sign the  indemnity bond.
Dulom said that though the East Kameng district administration and the state government have cancelled the search operation due to inclement weather, the present team feels there is still hope to find the missing persons.
“Professional mountaineers have their own way of search and rescue procedures.  As we are not satisfied with the search operation by the Army, we are taking up the matter in our own way,” he said however adding that the society doesn't blame the earlier team for the failure though.
The team will be airlifted by the Indian Army as ordered by CM Pema Khandu. Moreover, the CM has also assured logistic support during the search, the TCS said.
“If the present team fails to locate the whereabouts of the missing duo, TCS will appeal to the state government to re-conduct the search and rescue in the month of April- May next year when the climate gets better,” he said.
In the meantime, TCS also appealed to the state government to provide financial support to the family of the missing mountaineers. It further appreciated the East Kameng district administration and Indian Army for their tireless efforts in search and rescue of the missing.
Mra and his companion are missing for over a month now when they were on an official mission to explore the snow-capped Mount Khyarii Satam in East Kameng district.
