ITANAGAR, Aug 8: More than 5,000 Samagra Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) teachers staged a sit-in protest against non- fulfillment of their demand for regularization of all SSA teachers in a phase-wise manner at Tennis Court here on Wednesday.
The dharna was organised under the banner of central body of All Arunachal Samagra Shiksha Abhiyaan Teachers Association (CB-AASSATA) and will be continuing up to August 10.
The association has been demanding implementation of the recommendation made by the five-member committee constituted during the budget speech on March 2 to regularize all SSA teachers in a phased manner.
Addressing the gathering, General Secretary Techi Bollo said: “Our duty is to impart education to our pupils but today we failed them because the government did not come out with ‘One Time Solution’ to our long pending demand.”
Questioning the reluctance of the government in regularizing their jobs, Techi said it’s really disheartening to learn that despite all technical mechanism already drawn out by the five-member committee headed by Secretary Education in March last the Cabinet has not taken any initiative to approve it.
“We have been demanding regularization after the state Government itself quashed the signed SSA teacher contract agreement by amending the 2009 Cabinet decision to regularize SSA in-service teachers into the Directorate of Elementary Education with a ratio of 85 per cent of Primary Teachers (PRTs) and 25 per cent Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) for PRT,” Techi informed.
He continued that only 696 teachers were regularized till today and rest are yet to be regularized even after final report submitted by the committee for technical clearance as sought by the State Government.
Techi lamented that their repeated pleas for regularization of jobs went unheard despite three Cabinet meetings on the same issue.
“If our demands are not heeded this time, then we will go for indefinite non-cooperation movement from 16 August next.” Techi cautioned the state government.
Meanwhile, addressing a group of reporters at his office, State Education Minister Honchun Ngandam stated that the State government is positive and is working on to find some tangible solution to the issue.
He informed that there will be discussions on the modality of SSA job regularization and other related matters,at the Cabinet meeting on August 10th.
However, he called the dharna illegal as per the constitution, stating that “they might not be regularized as of now, but they are part of the government and we are hoping for some patience from the SSA teachers in the matter."
It is to be mentioned that a notice was also issued by Education Secretary to deduct three-day salary of SSA teachers joining the dharna.
