Itanagar, Sep 20: Following the question paper leak of the Assistant Engineer (Civil) Mains Examination-2022, a scandal which has rocked the state,  the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission today  cancelled the exam.
A total of 415 candidates had appeared in the examination for 33 AE posts which was conducted on August 26 and 27 for filling up of 33 AE (Civil) posts.
The decision to cancel the said recruitment examination comes at the heels of the arrest of five persons, including a senior official of Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission and two teachers, for their alleged involvement in the paper leak case, amid mounting pressure from the aggrieved candidates and civil society.
On Tuesday another person was arrested. Dilip Saha, 44, hailing from West Bengal was arrested in the wee hours today based on the disclosure statement made by accused Taket Jerang that that the crime of leaking out the question paper was done by him in connivance with Saha, the courier, who carried the packet  before printing.
“After careful consideration of the records and materials, the Commission is convinced that there is sufficient ground to order cancellation of the recently held Assistant Engineer (Civil) Recruitment Test and Main Examination-2022.
Therefore, the Commission hereby cancels the said examinations which were conducted on June 12 (Recruitment Test) and Mains examination on August 26 and 27, 2022 with immediate effect,” read the order issued by APPSC Secretary Dr Jayanta Kr Ray on Tuesday.
“It is further decided that candidates who were admitted to the last recruitment test shall be eligible to take the aforesaid examination, for which fresh date will be notified in due course of time,” the APPSC Secretary said.
Itanagar Police first arrested one Akhilesh Yadav, teacher of Jeju Institute, a private coaching institute in the capital and a candidate, Thomas Gaduk on September 11.  Tanyang Gaduk (father of Thomas), alleged middleman Tama Saroh (junior teacher of a State-run school), and finally, Taket Jerang, Deputy Secretary cum Deputy Controller of Examination, APPSC, were arrested on September 16.
Meanwhile, the All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) demanded the Police department to conduct a ‘free and fair investigation’ into the paper leak case.
Urging SP Jimmy Chiram to conduct a fair probe and fast track the investigation, the youth body said, " exemplary punishment must be given to alleged accused persons," while appreciating the capital police for arresting five accused persons.
It is a matter of shame that how such prestigious institution’s question paper was leaked thereby chairman and secretary of APPSC should be suspended immediately for breach of trust of the public, negligence of responsibility/duty and incompetence to hold the office. The public have no more faith on APPSC as they failed to conduct single exam without controversy, ANYA said in a statement.
