ITANAGAR, Aug 14:  As the non-APST community residing in the state are on tenterhooks ahead of the launch of ‘Operation Clean Drive’ across the state, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) statement today that none will be harassed during the drive comes as a major relief.

 ‘Citizens from other states will not be harassed or subjected to misbehaviour by any volunteer during the drive, however if anyone is suspected or caught defying the rule, they will be handed over to the concern district magistrate,’ informed Convener (AAPSU) cum Chairman of Operation Clean Drive, Tatung Taga while appealing the people to support the cause for the betterment of the state.

 In this regard, AAPSU held a meeting with All Assam Students Union on ‘Operation Clean Drive’ at Itanagar today. Meeting was headed by North East Students Organization Coordinator Pritam Bai Sonam as the meeting chairman.

Speaking to the media, Convener Taga informed that from August 17 next OCD will begin in the all districts by concern District Students Union (DSU) in close coordination with district magistrate.   All the non-APST of the state must possess Inner Line Permit as per the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act, he said.

Also speaking, Finance Secretary, AASU Krishna Das appreciated the move of AAPSU to restrict illegal intruders in the state after publication of NRC in Assam.  ‘We support the move of AAPSU but simultaneously we also appealed the apex students body of the state not to harass the genuine people from Assam who are staying in Arunachal for one or another cause in pretext of NRC or ILP,’ Das said.

‘Assam and Arunachal are two brothers and neighbours that have good relation since time immemorial,’ added the ASSU Finance Secretary.

Various other students’ organizations from Assam also participated in the daylong meeting.
