ITANAGAR, Aug 7: Special Secretary cum Mission Director, NHM, Tapasaya Raghav on monday called for identifying and understanding specific health needs and challenges faced by urban poor in accessing health services.
She pointed out that there are still groups of people who could not avail all the health facilities made accessible for them due to lack of awareness, ineffective outreach social exclusion, or financial bottlenecks which is also hampering the full immunization ANC coverage.
Raghav stressed on identifying and resolving all vulnerabilities faced by the urban poor effectively through conducting proper baseline assessments and survey.
Raghav was addressing staffers, nurses including representatives of TRIHMS, National Livelihood Mission, Nation Youth Project, scholars from Sociology department, Rajiv Gandhi University, etc in a one-day State level National Urban Health Mission orientation workshop organized by NUHM, Naharlagun on Monday.
She continued that inter-sectoral convergence and pro-active involvement of local bodies, community and NGOs is the need of the hour to strengthen the health delivery under NUHM.
Emphasizing on the significance of expanding of NUHM in the state, she informed more districts may join under the ambit of NUHM by next year because as of now Papum Pare and East Siang are only eligible for implementation of the programme.
In the meantime, she categorically cautioned that the non-performing Mahila Arogya Samitees will be removed from NUHM and maximum benefit should be percolated down to ground level by mobilizing the frontline workers.
Earlier, Dr R Dodum, nodal officer, NUHM explained the objective of NUHM.
Dr B.K Shome, senior consultant, RRC-NE (MoHFW), delivered speech on community processes, while Sagaria, senior consultant RRC-NE, Inter-sectoral convergence, Dr T. Kabak, Outreach & Referral, etc. spoke on financial management and quality assurance in urban areas.
