Itanagar, Nov 7: Arunachal Shiksha Vikas Samiti (ASVS) on Saturday inaugurated three key infrastructure projects -- ‘Utkarsh Bhawan’ - a State Training and Development Centre, a Multipurpose Hall and an Academic Block at Abotani Vidya Niketan, Pachin, Naharlagun, marking a major expansion of its educational infrastructure in the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein dedicated the facilities to the state, in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP and ASVS patron Tai Tagak, Women and Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul and other dignitaries.
The new centre is expected to serve as a hub for teachers' training, capacity building, academic development and leadership programmes to improve the quality of education across Arunachal Pradesh.
On the occasion, Mein also flagged off a school bus for Saraswati Vidya Niketan at Mahadevpur in Namsai district to support its educational activities and facilitate students' access to the institution.
Addressing the gathering, Mein appreciated the contributions of ASVS, also known as Vidya Bharati Arunacha Pradesh, in taking education to remote interior and border areas. He assured the organisation of full state government support and encouraged it to expand its activities to far-flung border locations such as Kaho, Taksing and Bumla Pass.
He also assured assistance for infrastructure development of the two higher secondary schools recently upgraded under ASVS management.
The Deputy Chief Minister also launched the Seemaborti Shiksha Vikas Samiti, a new organisation dedicated to educational development among students in border areas. He said the government would support ASVS in its efforts to spread education to underserved communities.
Tagak said ASVS, which began its journey with two schools in 1992, now runs 30 schools across Arunachal Pradesh and 11 Ekal Vidyalayas in remote border areas. He said the organisation provides free education, food and lodging to 15 to 20 per cent of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
He also informed that Abotani Vidya Niketan had been upgraded from secondary to higher secondary level and that ASVS planned to establish a girls' college at Pasighat in East Siang district. He sought enhanced financial assistance from the state government to support the organisation's expanding activities.
Minister Pul said the new facilities would strengthen teachers' training, academic excellence and value-based education. She stressed that efforts to empower young people with knowledge and skills must go hand in hand with preserving the state's indigenous culture, traditions and heritage.
The programme featured a rendition of the state song, Hamara Arunachal, a group dance depicting unity in diversity and a yoga demonstration by schoolchildren.
Also present on the occasion were Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra Organising Secretary Dr Pawan Tiwari, Vidya Bharati Uchhatar Shiksha Sansthan Organising Secretary KN Raghunandan, Itanagar Capital Region Deputy Commissioner Toko Babu, IMC Ward No. 14 Corporator Gyamar Tuvin and ASVS Vice-President Niri Chongrowju, among others.
