BORDUMSA, May 31: The incident involving the escape of 40 inmates from a rehabilitation centre in Bordumsa, took on a different angle pointing to alleged mistreatment as several of the fleeing inmates were found to be injured.
On Tuesday, at least 40 inmates reportedly fled from the Diamond Heart Rehabilitation & Counseling Center in Gidding, Bordumsa. Many of the fleeing inmates were found injured at the community health centre (CHC) Bordumsa, shedding light on the alleged mistreatment they endured while in the center's care.
According to the injured inmates, the staff members responsible for their well-being subjected them to torture for even the slightest transgressions, going so far as to prohibit them from speaking in their native dialects. One victim, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the harrowing experience, stating, "We faced regular torture from the center's members, and on that fateful night, we pleaded with the in-charge to inform our guardians so they could arrange our departure from the center."
Furthermore, the inmates refuted claims that their injuries were sustained during their escape. Instead, they revealed that the center's staff intentionally struck them with a wooden object, causing the leg injuries they suffered. The revelation paints a disturbing picture of abuse and mistreatment within the rehabilitation center.
Responding to these serious allegations, a joint meeting was held today between the Rehabilitation Center and the family members of the inmates in presence of local community based organizations leaders from Singpho and Tangsa community and also from the members of Singpho Youth Organisation of  Bordumsa. The aim of the meeting was to address the concerns raised by the inmates and their families regarding the alleged abuse.
Previously, the members of the Diamond Heart Rehabilitation & Counseling Center had accused the inmates of brutally attacking the center's staff, which supposedly led to the escape of 40 out of 55 inmates. However, the recent revelations by the injured inmates have shifted the focus to the center's staff and the conditions within the facility.
