ITANAGAR, Jul 30: Hundreds of people from all walks of life came together to participate in a peaceful solidarity candle march organized under the banner of Arunachal Pradesh Kuki-Zo Forum. The candlelight vigil was held to extend support and solidarity to the victims of the recent ethnic violence in Manipur.
Participants held candles, placards, and banners as they marched from Akashdeep to Tennis Court in Itanagar, conveying their collective concern and empathy for the people affected by the ongoing violence in Manipur.
Speaking to the media, the President of APKZF, Khupsuanlian Simte, appealed to the President of India and the Prime Minister to intervene in Manipur's situation and put an end to the ethnic violence that has resulted in the loss of lives for the past three months. He urged for an immediate halt to the violence and a restoration of normalcy in the troubled region.
Simte emphasized that the candle march was not directed against any particular community, tribe, or religion but rather intended to condemn the sexual assault on two women who were brutally paraded naked in broad daylight. He highlighted that violence against women should not be tolerated in any community, and regardless of any conflict. Even in war, there are some ethics, we should respect that and sexually assaulting women in any condition is condemnable, he stated.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the people of Manipur, Simte thanked the people of Arunachal Pradesh for organizing various solidarity marches to show support and empathy for the victims of the violence in their neighboring state.
