DOIMUKH, Sep 13:  A day after students protest erupted in the Rajiv Gandhi University campus that led to the cancellation of scheduled interview for 91 faculty positions over the issue of job reservation for the Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (APST), Rajiv Gandhi University today clarified that the University has been following the UGC guidelines and Government of India Recruitment Rules since its conversion as Central University since its conversion on April 9, 2007.
Based on the Central Government reservation rules, several advertisements had been issued and appointments have been made so far on the basis of 200 points Roster Register of DoPT/Govt. of India Guidelines issued from time-to-time in direct recruitment for teaching positions, a release stated. Further it added,  It is to be noted that the Government of India reservation policy is being implemented by all Central Government Institutions including which are located in Arunachal Pradesh such as NERIST, NIT, etc.
Giving out the chronology of the events leading up to the protest on Monday last, University authorities informed that as per the decision of the 44th Executive Council Meeting held on February 19, 2022 vide Item No. EC:01(A), the university had floated an advertisement vide No. Estt./Teach-142/Advt./2022 (Vol-III) dated 25.02.2022 for filling up of 91 (ninety one) teaching positions. Accordingly, the interview was scheduled from September 12-17 as first phase.
Expressing dismay at the turn of events, the University management stated that  a mob of around 100-150 students led by All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) and All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) literally gheraoed the administrative block in the morning hours (9:00 a.m. onwards)  and prevented the conduct of the scheduled interview on September 12. It is to mention that no prior representation in writing or verbal has been received by the University authority on the issue of reservation policy or opposition to the scheduled interview.
Alleging conspiracy, official release stated that a gross misinformation or ill-advice has been passed on to the apex student bodies resulting in such an ugly incident of gheraoing the administrative block. The RGU authority feels that the apex students body – AAPSU and ANSU could have gathered correct information and the issue (if any) should have been brought before the University authority which could be resolved amicably through dialogue/discussion. Nevertheless, the university authority has readily agreed for a dialogue and accordingly it was decided in the meeting to halt the scheduled interview for the time being. The issues raised by the students’ bodies will be thrashed out through a Committee to be constituted by the University authority.
