PASIGHAT, Jun 2: In connection with the ‘International Year of Millets 2023’ an awareness programme cum training on millet development was conducted today at the CHF auditorium, Pasighat for  nine adjoining districts namely Shi-Yomi, West Siang, Leparada, Lower Siang, East Siang, Upper Siang, Siang, Lower Dibang Valley and Upper Dibang Valley districts. The programme was organized by the East Siang DAO (District Agriculture Officer) and was attended by the DAOs, DNO (District Nodal Officers) for Millets and farmers of the aforesaid nine districts.
East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu chaired the programme and asserted millets as super food and resilient crop in the present erratic climate. The Dean of College of Horticulture & Forestry, Pasighat Prof Dr. BN Hazarika apprised the gathering about millets as potential crop and informed about the various works done on millets in their institution. The Dean, College of Agriculture, Pasighat Dr. A.K Tripathi spoke about importance of different aspect of millets and also told the gathering that the College of Agriculture would work hand in hand with the agriculture department in near future for development and welfare of the farmers of the districts. President of Bharatiya Kisan Morcha, Arunachal Pradesh, Dunggoli Libang urged the departmental officers to procure quality seeds and timely distribution of seeds to the farmers.
